Why you need to train your team over & above their job roles

We know that for today’s employees, the chance to learn and develop skills is becoming the most important factor in choosing a job. In fact, it’s been estimated that almost a third of employees think their skills are redundant now or will be in the next 2-4 years.

So it’s no wonder that a report by Manpower Group, of 19,000 working millennials across 25 countries, found that 80% rated the opportunity to learn new skills as a primary factor in considering a new job and 93% would spend their own time and resources on further training.
We are working in an age of continuous reinvention, where learning and developing new skills is as important as getting to the next rung of the corporate ladder and making that next step in their careers.

What’s more, there are more opportunities than ever before for people to learn, with content, classes and courses available at the touch of a button. Today, it is the pace and breadth of learning that employers need to keep on top of and, more so, embrace.

But what happens when the skills employees want to learn don’t fit with their job description, or don’t have an obvious benefit to your business?

What would it take for you to demand more from your place of work?

We all like to think of ourselves as people who would stand up for our rights… people who would demand more from our places of work if they treated us poorly.

We tell ourselves that our values and beliefs would cause us to act… to seek something better.

But in reality do we?

I mean how many people do you know who are dissatisfied with their jobs? It is likely you yourself are dissatisfied. A recent forbes study found that 57% of people are…

How many people do you know who complain about their rubbish boss? The stats say that 44% of people will be in this position.
How many people do you know that have been a part of a company restructure in the last 10 years? A restructure being the most aggressive threat a company can give to its employees… If you work for a business that is on the stock market, then you will have over 80% chance of being involved.

How many people do you know, that in the last few years, haven’t had a pay increase the same as inflation? In the UK in 2017 the average annual pay increase was 1% below inflation… so that’s pretty much everyone!

How many people do you know, that have had their bonus potential reduced or removed? 43% of company’s have negatively adapted their bonus schemes…

It doesn’t have to be this way…

Why doesn’t anyone really ever feel successful?

We all know we could contribute more we, that could enjoy life more, we could ensure those around us feel loved more…that we could be more and we could add more value.

I believe that we’ve all been created to thrive, to enjoy every moment & to push our potential as far as we possibly can do.

We all have unbelievable potential yet most of us compromise…. When I ask people about their dreams and goals…most people say that they’ve done what they believed they were supposed to do… you know… get an education…go work and work very hard… and one day, if they work hard enough for long enough, they might “make it”.

Most people give up on their dreams to follow this narrative…

The problem is this narrative isn’t true…
